Intensive Training Programme in Basic Skills in Counselling (3rd - 21st May, 2010)
Sampurna Montfort College in Bangalore is a premier counsellor training institution that has trained hundreds of counsellors in India. We were the first Institution in India to introduce Psychological Counselling as a university course offering a Masters in Holistic Psychological Counselling affiliated to Bangalore University.
In addition to the ongoing Part Time Diploma in Counselling Skills (on Saturday afternoons from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm) we are planning a Three Week Intensive Counselling Skills Training Programme starting 3rd May to 21st May, 2010. For the convenience of the teaching faculty, we plan to conduct this course during school vacations. This programme is specifically designed for teachers, and as such teacher and student concerns will be dealt with in detail.
Teachers are often expected to play the role of Guidance Counsellors / mentors for one or more of the following reasons:
- The increasing social pressure and media / peer influences that distract students from their primary purpose of studying/learning.
- The problems of adolescence / young adults and the lack of accessibility to correct advice and genuine information.
- Students coming from single parent homes and homes with parental/sibling problems displaying dysfunctional behavior impacting adversely on their psychological development.
- General confusion about selecting a career, due to the very large number of career opportunities available in the present day.
- Having to cope with certain common mental health problems such as inattention, learning disability, general conduct problems, etc.
